On Jan. 30, senior point guard Brittney Strickland eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career.

Strickland did so in helping to lead Dutchtown to a 57-51 win over Sandy Creek. For the season, Dutchtown’s record is 18-2 overall, and 12-1 in Region 4-AAAA with their lone blemish coming against Forest Park on Jan. 12, 74-55.

Forest Park is ranked No. 9 in the most recent GACA/Coaches Poll, though the Lady Bulldogs have not been ranked this season.

“The team’s performance so far has been outstanding,” Dutchtown coach Angela Williams said. “They’ve done everything I’ve asked of them. They are all seniors, and last year was my first year here.

“I had to get used to them and they had to get used to me. They adapted well, and just continued from the mission of last year.”

At 5-foot-5, Strickland has al-ready secured a full scholarship to Alabama A&M, as both Brittney and her twin sister, Alyssa, will be there next fall.

While the game of basketball continues to court taller guards, Strickland was able to show her abilities trump size.

“[Strickland] pretty much is the leader on the team,” Williams said. “She motivates the other girls to get at her same intensity. She is a very intense player and hustles all the time. She tries to get those girls to match her intensity. Once they do, they will be unstoppable as a team.”

Off the floor, Strickland spends time mentoring younger students about the game of basketball and hitting the books, as she has a 3.5 grade point average according to Williams.
